This is probably old news but…

…just thought I’ll let you guys know there’s a new browser on the block! And there’s reason to be excited - it’s released by Google, who is well known for doing things right. It’s called Google Chrome and it’s still in beta stage so you can use it, abuse it, make it stand on its head and then report something if it fucks up.

There’s only a release for Windows though, but word is they’re developing for Linux too. Here’s to praying.

Anyway, I gave it a whirl just now, and one of the notable differences (and my favorite) is that the address bar is both for URL and Google search! Nifty! And notice there’s less clutter up there? Which translates to more space! So far I really like it - the only gripe I have about it is… when I download something, it shows up like a bloated whale at the bottom, so I opted to hide it. But you know how hiding things are… you forget about them. Then, if you lose the window, there goes your download! Unlike Firefox, Firefox has a separate window that won’t close when the main one does. I wrote to Google already on this.

Go! Download! Have fun!

  • Ermm…
I thought IE can also use the main address bar as search box? They have implemented this for some time already.
I use IE, tried to love firefox, but for some unexplainable reasons I just can’t.
IE6 was a disaster, but IE7 has been a great step forward, and worked wonders with vista.

  • Robin: Really? I didn’t know that. Was it specifically google search engine or do they direct you to a MSN page or something?

*LOL* You know what? You’re the second person this week who tells me IE is preferable to Firefox. The other person’s my dad. :) Well, I must admit, browsers have become some kind of a macho (well, maybe not the word macho) contest. Like, “My boat is bigger than your boat” kinda thing. Haha… stupid, right? I say, just use whatever’s comfortable for you to use. And now another contestant has entered the ring! Try Google Chrome.

  • the default search engine would be msn, but you can change to yahoo or google easily. Mine is currently set to yahoo, but then i still prefer to type http://www.yahoo.com and then enter whatever I want to search in the main page, LOL, its a die hard habit I must say…

    aaaahhhh google chrome… I shall give it a try…

  • Robin: Yeah, please do! I don’t know why I’m “pushing” their wares so much. Anyone would’ve thought I work for them or something. :P I’m really glad to see that your photography spirit has not died! Keep the flame ablaze, Robin. :) I love going to your blog and check out your beautiful photos.

    *hugs*
