WE’RE GOING TO HONG KONG!!

*insert overenthusiastic flailing and gasps of unneeded breaths*
It’s been two years since Jee and I have traveled. TWO FREAKIN’ YEARS! I’m travel-starved right now. We couldn’t really leave Zoe behind while she was still young so we held ourselves back until the time is right. The time only came when I absolutely cannot stand it anymore and ache to go somewhere and look at something else besides Kuching’s boring landscape.
My eyes are bleeding, I’m telling you.
So. The trip is in January - and and and! Wait for it - it’s in Winter!! Yayyy! Yeah, here’s something you don’t know about me - I have a fetish for cold weather. Now I can wrestle all my jackets/hoodies/outerwears from evil dust bunnies and finally wear ‘em without sweating attractively. And goddamnit, I’ll hunt down that perfect pair of knee high boots even if it kills me!
For those of you who’d been to Hong Kong, tell me where to go! Where to shop - where to eat - where to have fun - where to have sex. TELL!!
Additional tips would be great too, especially when it comes to navigating the city and communicating with locals.

hahaha… good for you…
I’m going to miss a lot of trips for about 2 and half years due to my course. Sien… Hahaha… I couldn’t go to Singapore this year end with my family because it clashes with my exam. Even if can go for holiday also cannot plan too many months in advance because of the unccertain class schedule, every semester is only 7 weeks, the earliest I can plan a holiday is 2 months or less. Also cannot spend too long, the most is one week coz semester break is only one week.
The plan to Taiwan next year for about 3 weeks cannot be done anymore… Have to let go of the chance.
Luckily my trip to Penang in October didn’t clash with my exam, chun chun finished exam phew… I booked the tix more than 6 months before summore before I commit to take the course *sweat* Lucky lucky.
Shopping paradies in HK! Hehehe… You just have to find the right placce for it and bargain bargain bargain.

Irene: Wah… you were planning to go to Taiwan for 3 WEEKS?! Why so long?
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Penang… but I do remember the long, stretching beach and the horse rides. *sighs* I miss the horsies. Don’t forget to try Penang Laksa and their Char Kueh Tiaw! :D
That’s the thing… I have no idea how to speak cantonese! My cantonese is…. embarassing, to say the least. Jee learns language faster and better, so he’ll do all the talking. :D And also, since I’m comfortable with either English or Mandarin, which one should I use? I heard if you use Mandarin they’ll think you’re from China and they don’t really like them… =.=”
Elvawenn @ 10th Sep 2008
If you use Mandarin they will think you are from Singapore! :P Not China becoz China’s slang and ours are so much different, when they listen they will know. Hahaha… Don’t even speak English, they tend to cekik foreigners especially they thought you might be from some countries like Australia or NZ hahaha… Cantonese is much better hahaha but then if me… I don’t really speak fluent Cantonese also hahaha…
Hehehe… 3 weeks(the longest, else it’s 2 weeks, one week is too short) is because there are so much to see, will be travelling by driving around ourselves and go to many other parts in Taiwan instead of just staying at Taipei hehehe… Also because got friends there hahaha…
My Penang trip is all about food :P

*LOL* No wor… my parents went there, haggled in mandarin and the lady was like, “Are you from mainland China?!” and my mom, horrified, said, “No no…” Haha… it’s so funny. Then when I asked them if I should use Mandarin or English to converse, they say I should use English (but only as a last resort). Funny how I get different answers for this kind of thing. Hehe…
The safest bet? Speak in Cantonese. That means I have to shut up while Jee do all the talking. *LOL*
Elvawenn @ 12th Sep 2008
Hahaha… Maybe your parents speak better mandarin. The safest is Cantonese hahaha…

oh ya… reminded me something that I got from an air stewardess fren. She said, when flying route to China/Hong Kong, many passengers can speak fluent mandarin and communicate with their friends in mandarin when in flight and very obvious that they are from China by just listening to their slang. Naturally, the air stewardess would just ask them in mandarin but when the air stewardess ask them in mandarin on what drinks or food they want, they would turn to her and speak in English and stress that, “I’m not from China, I can speak English!” -.-” You say sweat or not like this? Those flying these routes should be able to understand mandarin or some other Chinese dialect at least so communicate with them but some of the passengers thinks that it’s an insult speaking to them in language they are comfortable in -.-”

Ahahahahahahahaaha! :D Really?! I don’t know wanna laugh or cry. At least they know people have “some” opinions on them. What to do? They are notorious for several not-so-pleasant habits. If they clean up their acts and behave responsibly and appear more civilized, then they don’t have to pretend or feel ashamed of themselves and where they come from…
I would’ve thought Beijing Olympics improved their general behaviors but it seems tigers can’t change their stripes. :D
So… if I speak in English, they’ll think I’m from Mainland China trying to “mask” my place of origin? *LOL* Die lah like that…
Elvawenn @ 12th Sep 2008
Jiat lat hahaha… At least you will not respond like “I’m not Malaysian! I speak English!” hahaha…
Irene @ 12th Sep 2008
*LOL* Not to say I’m proud or what to be Malaysian, but at least I don’t deny my nationality! Hehehe…
